The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency has launched a new app, DroneTower, which facilitates the reporting of planned drone flights. The app has become an official ICT system to streamline administrative procedures for drone pilots and owners.

‘The launch of this application was a necessity, we were very keen for it to be our own, Polish product, controlled by the Polish Air Navigation Agency,’ – Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak stressed. He pointed to the need for a Polish drone management application, especially in the current turbulent times, where security and economy are closely linked.

The DroneTower app is a tool designed for safe and efficient flight management. The system allows for the checking of flight conditions at a selected location and allows unmanned aircraft (BSP) operators of the intention to perform a flight (check-in). In addition, it provides the possibility for non-verbal two-way communication with the air traffic controller when flying in the controlled area of airports or reporting emergency situations. The application provides information about other reported BSP flights performed in the vicinity.

DroneTower is available free of charge on Android and iOS platforms (Google Play and App Store). Use of the app requires the creation of a PansaUTM account.

Instructions for using the DroneTower app are available at https://www.pansa.pl/dronetower/.

The website is operated as part of the programme of the Polish Ministry of Education and Science – Social Responsibility of Science.

The project is carried out by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw.

Project name: Law of new technologies – drones, electromobility. Innovation, development, security.

The state-funded project was accepted for funding in the context of a competition launched by the Minister of Education and Science on 8 March 2021 as part of the “Social Responsibility of Science” programme.

Value of aid: PLN 235,087,00. Total cost of the project: PLN 265.087,00

The aim of the project is to promote scientific research in the field of the law of new technologies by disseminating knowledge of the legislation on unmanned aerial vehicles – drones – in particular their operation, design, the obligations of operators and pilots, the obligations of public actors in the field of electromobility and the support mechanisms for users.
