The Polish Police has been using drones for a long time. The main tasks of BSP in the Police is collecting information from the air and recording it with the use of cameras. In addition to many niche applications, most drones are used to search for missing persons or register traffic violations. Although drones in the Police have been around for less than a decade, their use was regulated in detail only in 2019. in the Order No. 63 of the Police Commander in Chief on the detailed rules for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the Police.
When searching for missing people, drones are cheaper than helicopters and a very effective way to search, especially in large spaces and hard-to-reach areas. Their usefulness is primarily due to easy access to drones, much easier than to helicopters, the ability to record an image for later analysis and a significant reduction in costs.
The second most frequently using UAV in the Police is the Road Traffic Department. Monitoring of streets by drones, in particular of intersections, pedestrian crossings or railroad crossings, provides and documents information about offenses committed. In this case, police drone operators most often cooperate with a police patrol who, invisible at the scene of the offense, stops such a driver after receiving information about breaking the law and issues an appropriate ticket.
Drones are used more and more often and to a greater extent by various services, this is to improve safety and increase the efficiency of their work, also reducing costs.
