Air quality in Polish cities, especially in the autumn and winter, is definitely not the best and is a big problem for the residents and authorities of our towns. However, technology comes to the rescue. More and more Polish cities use unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor the quality of smoke coming out of chimneys.
City guards usually operate drones on behalf of the city. This is the case, for example, in Tarnów, where the guards have a specialized drone that during the flight is able not only to take a smoke sample, but also to carry out a complex analysis of the evidence, it is a real flying laboratory that provides the necessary basis for the application of regulations sanctioning environmental pollution .
Control activities are certainly an effective way to locate and punish people who do not comply with environmental protection regulations. However, it is an extremely effective preventive measure, because as we know, the inevitability of punishment is more important than its severity. Therefore, awareness of the ease and frequency of inspections should have a positive impact on social mobilization aimed at caring for clean air.
